Riley acknowledged by the NWRA as one among The Hill 2020’s High Lobbyists

Arlington, VA – The Hill Newspaper today published its annual list of the best lobbyists in Washington, DC, and added Jim Riley, Chief Counsel and Senior Vice President of Government Affairs for the National Waste & Recycling Association (NWRA) to its 2020 list for the second time in a row.

The Hill writes: “2020 was a chaotic year for K Street, with coronavirus pandemic and lobbying battles over COVID-19 relief laws taking up much of the year. The presidential and congressional elections also kept lobbyists busy as they tried to find ways to network under the new normal of virtual work.

“In a busy and challenging year for the world of influence, these are the people who have used their clout and knowledge most effectively for their customers.

“The list shows the wide range of talent required to succeed in the influence industry. But all of the people listed below are key players on K Street – and those who the country’s largest corporations, unions and associations turn to for their voices to be heard in the country’s capital.

“The ranks of policy makers and influencers are deeply rooted in Washington, but these are the people who excel at delivering results to their clients in the convention hall and administration.”

Riley has been recognized for his successful efforts on behalf of the waste and recycling industry named by the Department of Homeland Security as part of the “Essential Critical Infrastructure Workforce” in the guidelines of the Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency (CISA) in five different categories; Working to give industry priority access to personal protective equipment (PPE) as there is limited availability due to panic buying by the public; Successful lobbying for the introduction of House and Senate legislation to enable paycheck protection program loan recipients to use those funds for waste and recycling collection services; Encouraging the suspension of federal excise tax on heavy vehicles to boost manufacturing and sales during the pandemic; and attend over 200 virtual meetings with convention staff and congress members advocating for the waste and recycling industry on these COVID-19 issues.

Darrell Smith, President and CEO of NWRA stated: “Over the past three years, NWRA has invested considerable time and resources in recruiting the very best talent in government relations. Jim’s recognition by The Hill is deserved and we pride ourselves on his efforts on behalf of the industry. “

The Hill, which has been referred to as “impartial reporting on the inner workings of Congress and the relationship between politics and business,” is broadcast direct to all congressional bureaus and is widely used on Capitol Hill as well as in downtown Washington, DC

Since 2018, NWRA has received a total of eight national awards for individuals and the entire association
