Second installment of property tax payments due October 1st

CHICAGO, August 12, 2021 / PRNewswire / – Cook County Treasurer Maria Pappas will post the property tax invoices of the second installment online after 10 am today at cookcountytreasurer.com. The new bills will more than increase the total amount billed across the country for 2020 $ 16.1 billion, an increase of more than 3.4 percent over the previous year.

The invoices will be sent to taxpayers this month. Payments are due October 1.

To make an online payment go to the website:

  • Select the blue box that says “Pay online for free”.
  • Search for the property address or enter your property index number (PIN).

Taxpayers can also use the website to post $ 72 million of available refunds dating back 20 years and to review property tax exemption, which can lower the tax burden. Homeowners might be missing out $ 43 million in the case of exceptions.

  • Select the purple box that says “Your property tax overview”.
  • Search for the property address or enter your property index number (PIN).
  • Look for the results under “Are you overpaying for your PIN?”
  • Or the results under “Did you receive your exemptions in these tax years?”

Late payments will be charged 1.5 percent per month, as of. required Illinois Law.
