Lincoln, Neb. – The Nebraska fuel tax rate for the period January 1 through June 30, 2021 is 28.7 cents per gallon, compared to 33.2 cents per gallon. That is a decrease of 4.5 cents.
The components of future and current interest rates include wholesale, floating and fixed interest rates.
The cut follows an earlier excise tax hike that went into effect in July. At the beginning of 2020, the tax was 29.3 cents.
Nebraska gas tax is calculated twice a year based on three factors: a legislator-set fixed tax rate, a wholesale tax rate based on fuel price, and a variable tax rate that is legislatively budgeted based on transportation expenses.
Most of the proceeds go to the Nebraska Department of Transportation, while cities and counties share some of the rest.
