Lawsuit filed in opposition to Nassau County Government for improper removing of tax data

Republican lawmakers in Nassau county filed a lawsuit against district chief Laura Curran alleging that she removed information about tax implications from the government website despite being ordered by a judge and passed by lawmakers.

After a majority of Nassau residents saw their property taxes rise in a tax revaluation – and a number of typographical errors were found in those revaluations – lawmakers passed a law asking Curran to provide information about the impact of those taxes to send the county. The information has yet to be published.

Republican lawmaker John Ferretti filed the lawsuit. He said all he wants is for Curran to post the information about the tax implications online.

“Not only is this information not on the website, I haven’t even received a confirmation for the letter I sent to the district management. This is just another step they took to hide information from Nassau County’s residents, ”Ferretti said.

Curran, a Democrat, campaigned to fix what she called the “broken revaluation system” that saw some homeowners shoulder more taxes than others.

In a statement, her office accused Republicans of making politics rather than repairing the revaluation system. Her office ignored a question about whether the tax impact statement would be filed online.
