HARRISBURG, PA (WHTM) – The Wolf Administration announced today that elderly and disabled Pennsylvanians can now apply for discounts on property taxes or rent paid in 2020.
Income and Aging Department officials encourage applicants to visit mypath.pa.gov to submit their applications electronically.
“By offering an online filing option, we have a new, easy-to-use tool that we can use to ensure that anyone eligible for the property tax / rental discount program can submit their applications easily,” said Treasury Secretary Dan Hassell. “This online option will be especially helpful this year during the COVID-19 pandemic, as it allows applicants to submit their applications from the comfort of their own homes.”
Applicants can refer to the property tax / rental discount program manual for information on what information they need to enter / upload to complete the process.
Applicants who wish to submit a paper application form can visit the Treasury Department’s website or call 1-888-222-9190 to obtain Property Tax / Rental Discount Application Forms (PA-1000) and related information.
“Most seniors want to age by staying in their homes for as long as possible,” said Robert Torres, Minister for Elderly. “Every year, the property tax / rental discount program offers older adults a great opportunity to get some money back for what they paid out. Many of them live on a steady income, so they benefit from the financial support from this program. ”
Discounts will be distributed from July 1st in accordance with legal requirements. The easiest way to check the status of your discount is to use Where’s My Discount? Tool. To check the status of your claim, you will need your social security number, year of claim and date of birth.
