Governor Evers cited revenue and reforms to legalize marijuana
Governor Evers and Lt. Governor Barnes said legalizing medical and recreational marijuana was a key factor in getting Wisconsin out of the pandemic.
MILWAUKEE – – Individuals filing the Wisconsin Earned Income Credit (EIC) on their 2020 income tax return can expect delays in their refunds – but potentially larger refunds – the State Department of Revenue (DOR) said on Friday, April 16, With.
To offset the losses many people suffered due to loss of income due to the COVID-19 pandemic in 2020, the IRS and DOR at EIC are relying on the taxpayer’s higher income in 2019 and 2020.
The amendment to the Tax Act was passed following the passage of certain legal provisions through the Federal Consolidated Funds Act and the signing of certain tax provisions by Governor Tony Evers.
The tax law change came in February, when many taxpayers had already filed their tax returns. The DOR therefore states that it is working to adjust tax returns for taxpayers who would have benefited from applying the 2019 income amounts without the taxpayer having to resubmit or modify their returns.
DOR makes these adjustments automatically to make things easier for taxpayers who rely on their EIC.
If you’ve already submitted your Earned Income Credit claim, you don’t need to make any changes to receive the adjustment that the change in law calls for.
The DOR also emphasizes that in some cases, due to ID verification and other security or quality assurance measures, it can take up to 12 weeks to process returns.
Taxpayers who want to track their tax refund status can do so on the Where’s My Refund page? Do this on the DOR website or by downloading the WI Revenue app.
