Some people see a small spike in their bank account days after signing the $ 900 billion COVID relief package.
Curt Esser was one of the Wisconsin residents who noticed a $ 600 economy was on the way. With the New Year holidays, the money should be available by Monday.
For some, the money will help settle bills or replenish exhausted savings accounts and emergency funds.
Curt, who is self-employed, said he plans to use his money to help local businesses.
“That will help them keep their payroll up, pay their bills, pay their taxes, pay their property taxes and everything. It’s very sad, very sad and frustrating to see these local businesses close,” said Curt .
With many more still waiting for their check, lawmakers remain divided.
Senate Republicans blocked one final Democratic effort on Friday to raise stimulus checks to $ 2,000.
“A big part would be rich socialism, money going to six-figure households that haven’t lost jobs or income in the past year. The House Democrats’ bill just isn’t the right approach,” said Mitch McConnell, majority leader of the republican senate.
“Where was your concern about socialism for the rich when Amazon, owned by the richest man in the world, received a tax break of $ 129 million? I haven’t heard much about socialism for the rich in this debate,” countered the Democratic Senator Bernie Sanders.
The current congress session ends on Sunday.
