The DeKalb County Tax Commissioner’s workplace sends annual property tax invoices – On Frequent Floor Information – in mid-August

DeKalb Tax Commissioner Irvin Johnson

DECATUR, GA – The DeKalb County Tax Commissioner’s Office will begin sending property owners their 2021 tax bills in mid-August. Tax invoices are sent upon successful approval of the county’s tax summary by the Georgia Department of Revenue.

“The Digest is an official listing of county property and its estimated worth. This office worked in collaboration with the Tax Assessor’s Office, the Board of Commissioners, the DeKalb Board of Education, city governments and the county council to prepare the tax review, ”said Irvin Johnson, DeKalb County’s Tax Commissioner.

“While we are fulfilling our legal obligations, we understand that tax laws in 2021 will not be the focus of some taxpayers,” said Johnson. “I want taxpayers to know that this office will do everything possible to help them address their tax concerns.”

The tax bills are calculated on the basis of the following calculation bases: customs duties set by the authorities, the market values determined by the property valuation and valuation department and the assessment of 40%. The tax bill will also reflect any credits (deductions) that may result from E-Host (Equalized Homestead Options Sales Tax) and basic, senior, or special homestead exemptions provided by state and local laws.

All property owners can pay in two installments as stated on the tax invoice. Due dates are September 30th and November 15th. Taxpayers are urged to carefully review their invoices for partial and total payments. The City of Atlanta / DeKalb invoices will be sent out at a later date.

Property owners paying the full tax bill must submit full payment by the first deadline to avoid a late fee. All mail payments must be postmarked by the US Postal Service by the due date; Franked or kiosk postage details will not be accepted as evidence of timely submission.

“There’s a lot of information in the annual tax bill,” said Johnson. “I encourage property owners to take the time to carefully read the tax assessment notice and accompanying information.”
