The Tax Cuts and Jobs Act of 2017 was the largest revision of US tax law in three decades. The bill brought lower corporate tax rates, but the new White House administration’s agenda includes several changes, including higher tax rates for large companies. The plans also include limiting or eliminating some of the incentives currently available to these taxpayers. For example, the possible elimination of peer-to-peer exchanges has sparked much discussion among private equity managers.
In this episode, Laura Calugar, Senior Associate Editor, Commercial Real Estate, speaks with Asha Shettigar, Senior Director of FTI Consulting, about the US tax landscape and how proposed tax policy changes could affect the real estate industry. In the second half of the conversation, FTI Consulting’s managing director Yunsoo Kim discusses the impact of current economic volatility on property values and gives her expectations for 2021.
